Key West is the major city of the Florida Keys archipelago and is the southernmost point of the United States. This city has become a real mecca for tourists. They say if you have not visited Key West, then you haven't been to Florida. Here's what Ernest Hemingway wrote about Key West: «... this is the best place I have ever visited, flowers, tamarinds, guavas, coconut palms". The road from Miami to Key West is very picturesque and lies across the motorway, which connects the islands by dams and bridges, the Atlantic Ocean from one side, the Gulf of Mexico from the other. This place commands a fabulous panorama: the bright blue sky and the dazzling turquoise sea. Here lived the authors, artists and public figures, including Hemingway and President Truman. The residence where they once lived now are museums. In Key West as nowhere else you can feel the atmosphere of a treasure hunt of sunken ships. One of these treasure hunters was Mel Fisher whose search was a success. He managed to lift gold and silver from the two sunken Spanish galleons. It is possible to get to know some of Mel Fisher's findings in a small but very interesting museum, organized by him. The old town is rich in historical attractions, monuments and small hotels. The main street of the city – Duval Street – is called the world's longest street – it stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. Mallory Square is the central city's quay and is especially animated during the sunset. Restaurants, bars and nightclubs in the city are open until 4 am.
